It’s International Women’s Month, and with the presence of the President of Guatemala, Dr. Alejandro Giammattei, and in the framework of a breakfast organized by the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala, the launch of SheWorks! Guatemala was announced, the innovative initiative supported by the IADB, to bridge the gender unemployment gap through online education and remote work. The platform will train thousands of Guatemalan women in skills for the digital economy and its aim is to impact unemployment, connecting beneficiaries with job opportunities in the cloud.
Women have a critical impact in the economy: McKinsey reveals that closing the gender gap would inject the global GDP with 12 trillion dollars for 2025. Nonetheless, women’s labor participation is 26% less than men’s.
In Guatemala, half of women between 26 and 50 are inactive in the labor market.
The event included the participation of the President of Guatemala, Dr. Alejandro Giammattei and members of his cabinet; Carlos Melo, Representative from the Inter-American Development Bank; Eduardo Girón, President of the Chamber of Industry of Guatemala; Silvina Moschini, CEO and Founder of SheWorks!; and representatives from the most prominent companies of the country.
“SheWorks! Guatemala is a key initiative that shows the commitment of the Guatemalan industry sector in the empowerment and economic development of women in the country”, affirmed Eduardo Girón, President of the Chamber of Industry.
“This project that starts as a pilot in Guatemala and its aim is to expand across the region, demonstrates that it is essential the joint work among the private sector, multilaterals, and innovators to create solutions that impact in the lives of women and the development of the country and the region”, declared Carlos Melo, representative of the Inter-American Development Bank in Guatemala.
This program, which is possible thanks to a technical cooperation facilitated by the IADB, is focused on bringing digital skills to women in the areas of digital marketing, social media management, as well as development of campaigns in Google, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other key technological platforms.
‘Our objective is to convert Guatemala into the talent export hub specialized in the digital area. We seek to close the unemployment gender gap for thousands of Guatemalan women through training in digital skills for the future and job opportunities in the cloud from all over the world. Our technological platform makes the management of remote work possible and verifiable, and widens employability, breaking the geographical barriers that separate talent from opportunities’, said Silvina Moschini, CEO and founder of SheWorks!.
Courses are 100% online through SheWorks! Academy will include live classes with experts in the global digital industry, video sessions, access to a digital community and a personalized coach to accompany and track the evolution of each student.
Training will last 6 weeks and it will be focused on three areas:
- Cloudworking: an integral training in all the skills, tools and methods to effectively work from anywhere.
- Tech Skills: training in all the tech skills that are most demanded in the global industry. Developed together with leading companies such as Google, Facebook, Instagram and Linkedin, including tools for community management and social media.
- Skills for the Future: focused on the development of soft skills for the future of work, such as communications and problem solving.
SheWorks! Guatemala is supported by companies such as CBC, Progreso, through one of their leading companies Cementos Progreso and Millicom, and universities including Universidad Del Valle, ESI School of Management, International Marketing Institute, Universidad del Istmo, Universidad Rafael Landívar, among other organizations that join this initiative as talent and employment partners.
